Introducing Air Polishing, the New Dental Cleaning

If you thought your traditional dental cleaning here at NJDC was thorough before, you need to be prepared to experience the new wave of technology; air polishing!  Patients have called it a refreshing and even more thorough cleaning experience.

What is Air Polishing?

Air polishing is a procedure which uses water and air pressure to deliver a controlled stream of specially processed powders in a slurry from a hand piece nozzle.  Fine particles of powders are propelled by compressed air in a warm spray and directed into the surfaces of the teeth and gums to flush out bacteria that lingers between them.  This pressurized jet of air, water and powder removes surface stains, plaque and other soft deposits such as food particles that become trapped in between teeth.  After experiencing air polishing, patients describe it as a refreshing, many have noticed that their teeth appeared brighter after the treatment from the superior removal of surface stains.

Air polishing is a state of the art innovation that Dr. Orellana has made available in his Denville, NJ practice. Air polishing enables the dental hygienist to deliver an effective and efficient way to maintain the health of dental implants.  It is also beneficial for the cleaning of natural teeth, orthodontic appliances and Invisalign attachments.  Air polishing is also gentle enough to clean aesthetic dentistry such as crowns and veneers.

Taking the "Sting" Out of Dental Injections

Dr. Orellana is always researching new scientific evidence based methods to make your time in the chair efficient, effective and most of all, comfortable. When he learned of the benefits of buffering anesthetic, he immediately implemented it into his patient care regimen.

What is Buffering Anesthetic?
Buffering anesthetic is the lowering of the pH level of anesthetic to make the injection process more comfortable. Dental anesthetics have an acidic pH, therefore, the sting you feel while receiving an injection is from the acidity of the anesthetic as it enters the soft tissue. Buffering anesthetic reduces this sensation by neutralizing the pH level and making the injection process more comfortable. The science shows us that reducing the pH level of anesthetic also makes it active faster and more effective.

Buffered anesthetic occurs by adding a pH lowering element to the traditional anesthetic prior to giving the injection. Bicarbonate designed specifically for this purpose, is added to the anesthetic to achieve a better, more effective and more comfortable way to introduce anesthesia into the soft tissue.

If you are looking for a better numbing experience in Denville NJ, then look no further, Dr. Orellana can deliver this revolutionary technique for you!
